The Annual Street Party took place as usual in September in Thackeray Street. Here is a report of the event from its co-organiser, Sandra French
2017 STREET PARTY
On Sunday 10th September in Thackeray Street, the KCRA Annual Street Party welcomed back the local community from their summer break to a backdrop of fantastic music, food, fun, rain and scaffolding. Local residents braved the elements, coming out in their usual numbers to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and offerings generously provided by all our local favourites - the Builders Arms, Cote Bistro, Jakobs, Little India, Montparnasse and Ottoemezzo. Not to be outdone, Gallery 19 provided their traditional sausage sizzle.
Our Neigbourhood Fire Engine and Police Car turned up for kids (and some adults!) to investigate and climb around in, taking selfies with police hats or fire helmets. For the first time in the party’s history the Fire Engine was called away to an emergency! Children were fed and entertained with Kids Korner treats and games, including Imenio Hair & Beauty’s popular nail colouring and Sebastien Hair’s equally attractive hair extension demo. Energetic and upbeat enthusiasm from a swing dance demonstration provided by California Roadster Jeff & Naomi was a welcome new addition and we saw many locals trying out a few new steps.
The ever popular raffle was drawn by Counciller Matthew Palmer and included generous donations from The Milestone Hotel, Arcadia, Cote, Pomegranate Jewellery, Imenio and Valentino Hairdressers. The proceeds go to the Knightsbridge Branch of Riding for the Disabled. Despite the appalling weather, everyone enjoyed themselves and we will do it all again next year on Sunday 9 September.
